Cafe Umber embodies the idea of a modern cafe for dreamers, secured with its books, plants and a homeward feel.
This cafe was previously a house where a family lived for a decade before selling it away to our current client for turning it into a cafe.
Our client wanted us to create a space not just for delicious food but a homely mood as well.
Situated in a hill station, I decided that the biggest decor of this cafe had to be the sunlight itself.
We shifted the kitchen counter and placed the tables and chair towards the large windows to make sure the place was well-lit and warm from the natural sunlight.
The architecture was extremely helpful for us to make the place feel like home - given the fact that this was previously indeed a house.
Turning one complete side of a wall into a book nook added the extra element of coziness that we needed.
We kept the furniture of a variety - every table and chair set was different, intentionally mismatched as it would be in a house well-lived in.
We used plants as the final piece of decor and ensured that they were a little unkempt and plenty to make the place look like a controlled mess of beauty.
The final outcome was exactly as I had wanted it to be - it looked neat, decorated and cozy. Our efforts were again validated by the happiness in our client's smile.
